Stays · Country House SabisCão
When we first discovered this place, one word immediately came to mind: Freedom.
More than 50,000 m² of unspoilt nature, where peace and harmony fill the air. A place where birdsong brings tranquillity, where there are endless corners to explore and plenty of shade to rest beneath. We instantly imagined our four-legged companions enjoying this magical setting, and that was how SabisCão Country House came to life.
Located in Crato, in the heart of Portugal’s Alto Alentejo region, surrounded by beautiful countryside and bordered by the Ribeira da Seda stream, we believe this is the perfect place to offer unforgettable holidays for our four-legged guests, combining safety, quality and wellbeing.
At SabisCão, we believe dogs are happiest when they are simply allowed to be dogs. Our philosophy encourages healthy interaction between canine companions while always respecting each dog’s personality, pace and individual needs. The freedom to run, explore, play and socialise naturally promotes both happiness and balanced social development.
Our passion for dogs is supported by solid professional training. Our team is qualified in canine training and behaviour, allowing us to understand each dog’s communication, needs and emotions while encouraging harmonious group integration. We are also trained in veterinary first aid, ensuring we are prepared to respond quickly and appropriately should any situation arise. Combined with our extensive experience in managing groups of dogs, this expertise allows us to provide a safe, stable and enriching environment where every guest receives professional, dedicated and individualised care.
As dog owners ourselves, we understand exactly what every family wants for their beloved companion: a place where they are cared for as one of the family. That conviction inspired us to create a welcoming, home-like environment where every dog is respected as an individual and where social interaction develops naturally, safely and positively.
When dogs feel balanced, confident and secure, their happiness becomes evident. And that peace of mind extends to their families as well. We know that being apart, even for a short time, can be difficult. That’s why we regularly share photos, videos and updates of our guests’ daily adventures, allowing owners to follow their holidays and enjoy the same sense of reassurance and tranquillity that their dogs experience at SabisCão Country House.
For us, caring for a dog means far more than providing food and a comfortable place to sleep. It means offering freedom, companionship, respect and happiness in a natural environment where every day is an adventure and every guest is welcomed as part of our family.
Our space!
Caring for our Dogs
At SabisCão Country House, we want our canine companions to experience what every dog deserves: freedom.
Freedom to run, play, explore, rest and, whenever they choose, simply enjoy their own space. We believe that true wellbeing comes from the balance between socialisation and respect for each dog’s individuality. That is why we value every guest’s unique personality, pace and needs.
Every dog’s introduction to the group is carried out gradually and calmly. New canine companions are introduced in stages, respecting both their own personality and that of the other dogs, allowing relationships to develop naturally and safely. If we believe that a dog requires a more personalised adaptation period or is not yet ready to cope with the excitement of a group environment, we will always be honest about it. After all, every dog’s wellbeing will always come before anything else.
Before their first stay, all new canine companions take part in an adaptation and assessment session. This is an essential step that allows us to get to know each dog, understand their personality, behaviour and individual needs, while giving them the opportunity to become familiar with our team, the Country House and the group environment. This first experience is designed to be calm, positive and enjoyable. At the end of the assessment, we determine whether the dog is ready to enjoy the freedom our concept offers and whether they can safely integrate into the group, ensuring a positive experience for both them and our other guests.
Always under the supervision of the SabisCão team, our guests are free to choose the activities they enjoy most. They can explore every corner of the property, play freely, interact with their fellow canine companions or simply observe the world around them. Throughout the day, we also provide enrichment activities and gentle challenges that encourage social interaction, environmental exploration and mental stimulation, contributing to each dog’s physical, emotional and behavioural wellbeing.
Playtime is important, but so is rest. That’s why we have created an environment where comfort is always a priority. There are generous shaded areas for relaxing on warm days, fresh drinking water available throughout the property and climate-controlled sleeping areas to ensure comfort during both the hot summer months and the colder days of winter.
At the end of each day, our guests settle into comfortable beds, enjoying the peace and tranquillity of the Alentejo nights, just like cherished members of the family.
We also respect each dog’s usual diet, ensuring that their regular feeding routine is maintained throughout their stay. And because we believe affection makes all the difference, there is never a shortage of cuddles, kind words and genuine care from the SabisCão team.
Our team’s passion for dogs is supported by solid professional training. We are qualified in canine behaviour and training, as well as veterinary first aid, enabling us to understand each dog’s individual needs and respond quickly, safely and appropriately whenever necessary. Combined with our extensive experience in managing groups of dogs, this expertise ensures a balanced, safe and enriching environment where every guest benefits from continuous, professional and dedicated care.
At SabisCão Country House, every dog is welcomed as a member of the family. Our commitment is to provide a stay where every guest feels safe, respected, happy and truly free to be exactly what they are – a Dog.

Who can use the Country House SabisCão?
All our four-legged friends who are sociable with both dogs and people are welcome at SabisCão Country House.
Adult male dogs must be neutered (with the exception of puppies), and female dogs must not be in season during their stay. If your female dog has not been spayed, we kindly ask you to plan her stay so that it does not coincide with her heat cycle.
Adaptation and Assessment Period
For all owners who are new to the SabisCão philosophy and have not previously used our services, an adaptation and assessment period is required before any extended stay.
This period allows us to get to know your canine companion, understand their personality, behaviour and how they interact with other dogs. At the same time, your dog has the opportunity to become familiar with our team, the Country House and the group environment. It also gives owners peace of mind, knowing that their companion feels safe, happy and well integrated.
At the end of this period, our team will assess whether your dog is suitable to enjoy the freedom offered at SabisCão Country House, always with the wellbeing, safety and harmony of the entire group as our priority.
Wellbeing and Safety
The SabisCão philosophy is built on respect for every dog, their individuality and the harmony of the group. Therefore, if a dog’s behaviour compromises the safety, wellbeing of the other guests or the normal operation of the Country House, the SabisCão team may request that the owner collects their dog before the end of the scheduled stay.
Likewise, if, upon arrival or during the adaptation and assessment period, we conclude that a dog is not suited to our free-roaming, group-based environment, SabisCão reserves the right to refuse admission or terminate the stay and request the dog’s immediate collection.
In any of the situations described above, no refunds or compensation will be provided.
Health Requirements
For the health and safety of all our guests, dogs must have all required vaccinations up to date, together with a current internal and external parasite prevention programme.
We also strongly recommend enhanced protection against fleas, ticks and sandflies, particularly during periods of increased parasite activity, as well as appropriate vaccination and preventative treatment against Leishmaniasis, in accordance with the recommendations of your veterinary surgeon.
Use of the services provided by SabisCão Country House implies that owners have read, understood and accepted our Terms and Conditions in our client form.
